Planetary Parade to Appear in Yekaterinburg Sky: Observation Date

On the night of February 27-28, residents of Yekaterinburg will witness a unique celestial phenomenon—a planetary parade. Six bodies of the Solar System will align in a straight line in the night sky.
Six planets—Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, Venus, and Mercury—will align in the sky. Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and Mercury will be bright enough for naked-eye observations, while binoculars or a small telescope will help spot Uranus and Neptune.

For optimal viewing, astronomers advise choosing a location away from city lights, such as outside the city. The next opportunity to see a planetary parade will only come for Yekaterinburg residents in 2026—it is expected to occur on August 12.
Previously, other notable phenomena have been observed in the region. In December of last year, the Geminid meteor shower, the most intense of the year, was visible from the 4th to the 20th. Residents could also witness a lunar eclipse, the conjunction of Jupiter and Venus in the sky, and the northern lights over the shore of Verkh-Isetsky Pond in Yekaterinburg.
