Why Nostalgia for 2016 is a Trend Many Can't Let Go

No one has been able to bring back their 2007. Simply put, phone cameras were worse back then, and not everyone owned a compact digital camera. So people took an easier route: they started feeling nostalgic for 2016—chokers, skinny jeans, indie music, grainy photos taken on an iPhone 4, and that very game that made us go outside to hunt for Pokémon. As psychologists note, this isn«t just another trend but an attempt to return to a calmer time. When news feeds weren»t overflowing with sad stories, and the internet in general wasn«t full of bots, powerful algorithms, and AI-generated content. Just 10 years ago, the online world felt like real life, not artificial.

And while people are happily reminiscing about how young and cool they were, certain city neighborhoods would probably be too embarrassed to post their 2016 photos. This is especially true for residential districts.

While trash was piled up here, a bit further away, on a leftover patch of asphalt, an unauthorized parking lot had sprung up. Residents from nearby buildings would periodically chase away various unsavory characters from the area.

Yes, for a neighborhood a 15-minute walk from the scenic Victory Park—a destination for visitors from across the city—2016 was far from attractive. It«s hard to feel nostalgic about mountains of garbage and perpetual slush. However, if a trend for 2026 emerges in 2036, there will be something to remember.

The neighborhood blossomed with the arrival of the developer PRINZIP, which took on the implementation of the Victory Park residential quarter.

The architecture of the quarter clearly reads as post-constructivist. It«s true classicism for Uralmash (a district in Yekaterinburg), as its iconic historical buildings were constructed in this very style.

The quarter is designed with three courtyards, which will eventually be connected by arches in the buildings. The pedestrian area is opening in stages—as sections are completed.

The courtyard of the second building will be the largest in the quarter, covering 4,000 sq m—about the size of two professional hockey rinks.

The new sections feature various layouts—from studios to four-room apartments. Swipe through the carousel to see popular options.

Nostalgia is wonderful because without a past there is no future. And 2016 was indeed a good year. But there are still things and places that are much better now than they were 10 years ago. The block of streets where «Victory Park» is located is a prime example. Sales representatives can explain how to become part of Uralmash«s new history and the terms for purchasing an apartment in the PRINZIP project.
