The designers have been tasked with creating a style that combines the historical heritage of the site with the formation of a modern, recognizable image. According to the client«s vision, the system should preserve the memory of Kresty»s past while reflecting its new functional purpose.

Sergei Yaroshchenko, General Director of the KVS group of companies, emphasized the significance of the object: «Kresty is not just a redevelopment project, but a historical marker and a recognizable symbol of St. Petersburg. The new brand identity will be a key tool for rethinking the space, connecting the complex»s past with its new life.«

Art. Lebedev humorously commented on his studio«s involvement: »No freedom in sight for ages.«

It is planned that within five years, the Kresty territory will be transformed into a modern center of cultural, social, and tourist life. The historical name of the complex was retained following a public vote, and the architectural ensemble will not lose its original appearance.

The updated complex will include:

  • a museum;
  • a hotel complex;
  • a gastronomic street;
  • public spaces;
  • venues for cultural events.

The developer expects that Kresty will become a new attraction for residents and visitors of the city.

The St. Petersburg prison Kresty was built in 1884–1892 according to the design of architect Antoni Tomishko. The ensemble, which includes two cross-shaped buildings, is considered a unique example of functional architecture from the late 19th century. For over a hundred years, the complex was used as a detention center, and in 2017 it was decommissioned. Now the object is regarded as valuable from a historical and architectural perspective and has potential for contemporary use.

The KVS group of companies has been operating in the market since 2003 and is one of the largest developers in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. In terms of current construction volume in the city, the holding ranks among the top three.
