State Duma Elections Set for 2026

In 2026, Russia will hold elections for the ninth convocation of the State Duma. The campaign will have several features related to voting procedures and changes in electoral geography. Details were revealed on February 4 by Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC).

When the Elections Will Be Called and Held
Elections for the State Duma are called by a presidential decree. The document must be published in June 2026.
According to the law, voting day will be the third Sunday of the month in which the constitutional term of the previous convocation expires. Thus, the expected voting date is September 20, 2026.
Term of Office for the New Convocation
Deputies of the ninth State Duma will be elected for a five-year term. Their powers will last until September 2031.
How Many Deputies and How They Are Elected
The total number of seats in the State Duma remains unchanged at 450 deputies.
The elections will be held under a mixed system:
- 225 deputies will be elected from federal party lists;
- 225 deputies will be elected from single-member constituencies.
New Regions
For the first time, residents of the following regions will take part in State Duma elections:
- Donetsk People’s Republic;
- Luhansk People’s Republic;
- Zaporozhye Region;
- Kherson Region.
In connection with this, electoral district boundaries have been revised. As a result:
- Donetsk People’s Republic will receive 3 single-member districts;
- Luhansk People’s Republic — 2 districts;
- Zaporozhye and Kherson regions — one district each.
