Kuzbass' Chief Press Secretary Resigns Amid Regional Scandal

Yevgeny Romanov, press secretary of the Kuzbass administration, has stepped down amid a series of high-profile events in the region, a government source confirmed to the NGS42.RU editorial office on Friday, January 23. He headed the department responsible for informing the public and creating a positive image of the region for just five months.

According to the publication«s source, last work week was Romanov»s last as head of the information policy department of the regional administration.
‘He left of his own accord. The reason is unknown,’ the source told us.
His name and contacts have disappeared from the regional government«s website. The field for the head is now empty.
The department he headed is responsible for regularly informing the public about the authorities« activities, forming a positive image, and covering the implementation of development programs.
Yevgeny Romanov took the press secretary post in September of last year following the departure of Yekaterina Dubkova. Prior to that, he headed the Regional Management Center (TsUR Kuzbass). We covered what else is known about the region«s top PR official in a previous article.
For the past few days, all of Russia has been following events in Kuzbass due to the tragedy that occurred at a maternity hospital in the southern capital. The NGS42.RU editorial office continues to collect everything known about the mass death of nine infants during the January holidays.
The day before, Governor Ilya Seredyuk, during a live broadcast on social media, defended the medics of Novokuznetsk and reported that the institution had conducted over 140 deliveries and the majority of the infants were discharged healthy.
At the same time, some of the mothers whose children died did not undergo prenatal examinations. The newborns were admitted to intensive care in serious condition. These words caused a stir online, the broadcast was soon deleted, and the head of Kuzbass commented on this decision on social media.
UPD: shortly after the publication of our news, Yevgeny Romanov confirmed his departure in a chat group with Kuzbass journalists.
‘Colleagues, good evening! Due to a move to another job, I am leaving the information policy department. I want to thank you for the cooperation,’ he wrote.
He did not disclose his new place of work.
