Former Prosecutor Appointed Deputy Mayor of Chita

Alexander Zakharov, a former prosecutor, became the new deputy mayor of Chita on February 2. He replaces Elena Chasovitina, who headed the administration«s apparatus for 17 years—since April 2009—and has now retired. This was reported on the administration»s Telegram channel.
Alexander Zakharov was born on August 13, 1976, in the village of Krasny Chikoy. In 2001, he graduated from Irkutsk State University with a degree in law, qualifying as a lawyer.
He worked in the prosecutor«s office from 1997, holding senior positions in the prosecutor»s offices of Chita Oblast and Zabaikalsky Krai. From 2013, he served as head of the department overseeing operational search activities for the Zabaikalsky Krai Prosecutor«s Office, and from April 2025, held the position of Vladivostok Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor of the Amur Basin Environmental Prosecutor»s Office.
The administration of Chita has a total of nine deputy mayors, though there are currently eight in practice. Five of them are responsible for specific areas: First Deputy Mayor Andrei Grenishin; Deputy Mayor for the Apparatus Alexander Zakharov; Deputy Mayor for Social Issues and Interaction with Law Enforcement Agencies Lyudmila Emikh; as well as the Chairman of the Urban Planning Policy Committee Alexander Zudilov and the Chairman of the Municipal Services Committee, whose position is currently vacant. Another four are deputy mayors for territories—one for each of the city«s districts: Tsentralny, Ingodinsky, Zheleznodorozhny, and Chernovsky.
