Former Vladivostok prosecutor Sergey Bazhutov named deputy prosecutor general

On 27 January, senators of the Federation Council reviewed and supported candidates for the positions of deputy prosecutor general presented by President Vladimir Putin.
According to the newspaper Kommersant, the candidates were the prosecutor of Krasnodar Krai Sergey Tabelsky and the head of the Main Criminal Judicial Department of the Prosecutor General«s Office, Sergey Bazhutov, who previously worked as the prosecutor of Vladivostok»s Leninsky district.
Sergey Bazhutov was born on 21 November 1966 in the village of Pervomaisky, Kostanay District, Kostanay Region, Kazakhstan. In 1991, he began working in the prosecutor«s office of Primorsky Krai, rising from an intern to the prosecutor of the Spassky District, and later becoming the prosecutor of Vladivostok»s Leninsky district.
In 2003, he became the deputy prosecutor of Sakhalin Oblast, and in 2005, he was appointed first deputy prosecutor of Kamchatka Oblast. That same year, he was appointed prosecutor of Kamchatka Oblast by order of the prosecutor general of Russia.
From December 2011 to March 2020, he served as the prosecutor of the Komi Republic. He holds an award named weapon and the breastplate «Honored Worker of the Prosecutor»s Office of the Russian Federation«.
During the session, Bazhutov proposed expanding the application of property confiscation, a measure he said has been used three times more frequently in criminal cases recently. According to him, this measure was previously not enforced properly, but the prosecutor«s office has achieved its application in 31 thousand court decisions.
The senators ultimately supported his candidacy unanimously. In his new role, Sergey Bazhutov will oversee the work of prosecutor«s offices in the North Caucasian and Southern federal districts.
