Volgograd resident faces prison for threatening energy workers

In Volgograd, an incident involving an attack on employees of JSC Volgogradenergosbyt is being investigated. According to the company, a 57-year-old city resident, who owed about 1.2 million rubles (approximately $12,000 at current rates) for electricity, threatened the inspectors and attempted to push one of them down the stairs.
The conflict occurred on December 9. Energy workers arrived at an apartment building for a control inspection of the distribution device. Earlier, due to a debt of almost 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,000 at current rates), the electricity supply to this apartment had been officially disconnected. However, in October, specialists discovered the fact of unauthorized reconnection.
The press service of JSC Volgogradenergosbyt reported: \«...when a control inspection of the distribution board device in the entrance was being conducted in December, the man attacked company representatives, threatening violence, inflicted multiple blows with his hands and feet on the inspector, attempted to push him down the flight of stairs and fled.\»
For illegal connection to the networks, the Volgograd resident has already been held administratively liable, with a fine of 10,000 rubles (approximately $100 at current rates) issued. Now, a criminal case has been initiated against him for the attack on the company«s workers.
