In Volgograd, a non-payer for electricity could face a criminal record for threatening to push employees of Volgogradenergosbyt JSC down the stairs during an inspection of the distribution board in the entrance of an apartment building. The troublemaker«s apartment was disconnected from electricity due to debts.

According to Volgogradenergosbyt JSC, the 57-year-old man has accumulated 1.2 million rubles (approximately $16,000 at current rates) in debt for all utility services, including 100,000 rubles ($1,300) for electricity. Electricians came to his home, disconnected his apartment from the distribution board, but in October he reconnected it himself. On December 9, utility workers came for another inspection and became victims of an attack by the unrestrained Volgograd resident.

«Previously, the apartment owner, who accumulated a debt of almost 100,000 rubles, had his electricity supply disconnected in accordance with established legal procedures,» the organization«s press service reported. »In October last year, specialists discovered that the apartment had been illegally reconnected to the power grid, and when in December they conducted a control inspection of the distribution board device in the entrance, the man attacked the company«s representatives, threatened violence, inflicted multiple blows with his hands and feet on an inspector, tried to throw him down the staircase flight, and then fled.»

For the unauthorized connection to the networks, the man has already been fined 10,000 rubles ($130). Additionally, police are investigating a criminal case regarding the attack on the team of electricians.
