Sherlovaya Gora residents without water after pipes freeze

The water pipeline froze in the settlement of Sherlovaya Gora in Borzinsky District, Zabaykalsky Krai, against the backdrop of -40 degree Celsius (-40 degree Fahrenheit) frosts, causing part of the settlement to be without cold water since January 14. Local residents reported this to Chita.Ru, and the information was confirmed by acting district head Ivan Trukhin.
«A section of the water pipeline froze. Two crews, about 15 people, six units of equipment, worked to eliminate the emergency situation. On Friday, January 23, the quarter networks were thawed, and the accident was resolved. As of today, only local incidents in houses remain,» Ivan Trukhin said.
In addition to the water pipeline problem, an accident also occurred on the heating networks in the settlement, causing work crews to switch focus. Heating was restored within a day, but about four houses remain without water. According to the head, the problem should be fixed within today.
«The emergency situation on the heating networks was also resolved by the thermal power plant, from today they are returning to water supply and are already going specifically to houses, based on residents» appeals, and conducting work to thaw the owners« networks,» the head noted.
In houses where pipes were thawed, warm water was temporarily supplied through the return pipeline. Therefore, from the cold water tap, warm water is now flowing — until the accident is fixed.
The situation is under the control of the regional prosecutor«s office.
The 2025/2026 winter heating season in Zabaykalsky Krai is proceeding with difficulty. Just in the last few days, several accidents have occurred.
The first rupture of the central heating main occurred in Atamanovka on the afternoon of December 30. It could not be quickly fixed, and as a result, residents of the settlement welcomed the New Year in cold apartments. On January 1, the boiler house was started at full capacity, but then in the settlement a new rupture of the heating main occurred — on Tselinnaya Street, and it was soon eliminated. Due to the Atamanovka incident, investigators also initiated a criminal case on negligence, as about 3,000 people were left without heat.
The second rupture of the heating main occurred in Darasun on January 21. Because of it, the Investigative Committee (SK) also initiated a criminal case on negligence.
The third rupture of the heating main in Zabaykalsky Krai in the last month occurred in the settlement of Yasnaya.
