Parachute rescue service head convicted for fake jumps in Nizhny

In Nizhny Novgorod, the head of the parachute rescue service at a flight test base was convicted. He was taking money from the budget by overstating the number of jumps. The regional Ministry of Internal Affairs provided more details.
The scheme involved the chief using his official position to overstate the number of training jumps by rescue parachutists on paper. From 2017 to 2019, the Nizhny Novgorod resident signed certificates for jumps that did not actually take place and then received payments for them. In total, he signed off on 468 unperformed jumps.
Thus, the head of the parachute service illegally obtained over 2.2 million rubles (about $22,000 at current rates). However, the scheme was uncovered, and a criminal case was opened against him for fraud. The court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 1.6 years of suspended imprisonment with the same probation period.
Previously, we reported that one of the directors of Atomstroyexport and the former deputy head of the Sarov administration, Mikhail Shcherbak, was detained in Nizhny. He is accused of financing an extremist organization.
