A joint raid by officers from the migration department, special police regiment, and dog handlers took place at construction sites in the Moskovsky District of St. Petersburg. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region reported the operation on 5 February.
Police conducted a raid on migrant workers at construction sites in St. Petersburg.
Preparations for the operation began with aerial reconnaissance: police used a quadcopter to survey construction sites and navigate the area. Then dog handlers with service dogs inspected temporary shelters and workers« personal belongings. Meanwhile, migrants presented their documents for verification.
As a result of the raid, about 60 people were taken to police stations. It emerged that some were legally in Russia but had difficulty due to poor knowledge of Russian and could not understand which documents were required. Interpreters were brought in to facilitate communication. After clarifying the circumstances, these individuals were released. Administrative protocols were drawn up against 40 foreigners for violations of migration legislation.
Law enforcement officials stressed that monitoring of construction sites in the city will continue, and similar inspections are planned in the future.
