Fire in Karelian Hospital Kills One, Children Unharmed

On the night of January 26, a fire broke out at Kondopoga Hospital, resulting in the death of one patient. Children who were in the building were not harmed.

The fire occurred in a separate building of the Central District Hospital in the city of Kondopoga. The incident was reported by the Minister of Health of Karelia, Mikhail Okhlopkov, on his Telegram channel.

The fire broke out in the adult infectious disease department on the first floor. The alarm was received at 1:59, and by 2:29 the fire was completely extinguished.

At the time of the incident, there were eight patients in the department. One of them, an elderly man who was preparing to be transferred to a neuropsychiatric boarding home, could not be saved. The other patients were promptly moved to the main building.

On the second floor of the same building, there is a children«s department. All children remained unharmed: two were sent home with their mothers, and one mother with a child was moved to the main building. Medical staff sustained no injuries.
