On Sunday, January 25, drunk drivers in Voronezh caused two accidents: in one, a pedestrian was killed, in the other, the driver himself was injured. According to police, this accident occurred in Pavlovsk around 05:40. Where a local 24-year-old racer was hurrying so early on a weekend day is unknown, but near house No. 41 on Gagarin Street, his journey ended abruptly: the young man lost control of a VAZ-21113, the car crashed into a traffic light pole, flipped over, and landed on its roof. Traffic police who arrived at the scene quickly identified one cause: 0.802 mg of alcohol per liter of exhaled air—five times the legal limit of 0.16 mg.

The driver was injured and taken to the hospital. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Voronezh Region reported that the circumstances of the accident are being investigated. However, the driver certainly faces a fine of 45 thousand rubles (about $600 at current rates) and license suspension for one and a half to two years under Article 12.8 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Russian Federation. Additionally, after the investigation, he could be charged with speeding. Previously, we reported on an accident caused by a dead drunk resident of Kursk—also in the Pavlovsk area, on the M-4 «Don» highway—which resulted in a woman being injured.
