Bar patron's mistaken identity leads to violent brawl
On 5 February, details emerged of an incident that occurred on 13 April last year at a bar on Alpiysky Lane in the Frunzensky District of St. Petersburg.
According to the investigation materials, a 44-year-old patron of the establishment became involved in a verbal altercation with another guest. During the conflict, he threw a drink in his opponent«s face and then struck him with an empty glass.
As a result, the victim sustained a deep cut wound on his right cheek, classified as life-threatening. After healing, a rough scar remained at the injury site. The attacker also threatened the man with murder.
The investigation established that the cause of the fight was a case of mistaken identity. The 44-year-old troublemaker mistook the victim for an acquaintance and tried to hug him in a friendly manner. However, the victim reacted negatively to the stranger«s actions, which triggered a burst of violence.
The man has been charged with intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm dangerous to life and with death threats. The criminal case has been sent to the Frunzensky District Court of St. Petersburg for consideration on the merits.
