12 Pedestrians Killed in Yugra Last Year

Last year, 221 road traffic accidents involving pedestrians were recorded in Yugra, resulting in injuries to 219 people and 12 deaths. The number of accidents caused by pedestrians decreased by 10%, according to the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GIBDD). The greatest number of pedestrian-involved accidents were registered in Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut, and Nefteyugansk.
The last major accident involving pedestrians happened in the final days of December. In Surgut, on the Tyumen Highway, a Toyota car skidded. Preliminary information indicates the 36-year-old driver lost control. The foreign car crashed into a Datsun parked on the roadside, which was thrown into three pedestrians nearby. As a result, one of the pedestrians, a 36-year-old man from Yugra, was crushed to death. The other two sustained injuries.
Another fatal accident involving a pedestrian occurred in the Surgut District on the same day. A 49-year-old man stepped onto the roadway to help pull out a GAZ car stuck on the shoulder. It was around 8:00 p.m., and the man was not wearing any reflective elements. Preliminary reports suggest he was not noticed and was hit by a 69-year-old driver of an Izuku. The pedestrian died as a result.
Earlier, we reported that 22 people died on the roads of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug last year due to drunk drivers. Another 166 residents of Yugra were injured.
