In Omsk, 70% of X-ray rooms were initially deemed non-compliant with new sanitary rules introduced in September 2025. The previous standards had not been updated since 2003. Experts believe that the new regulations will significantly impact the operation of X-ray facilities but will have a positive effect on quality.

«The new SanPiN pays serious attention to issues related to determining individual radiation doses. New parameters have appeared: DAP — dose-area product, DLP — dose-length product (for CT scanners), and RDL — referential diagnostic levels. Recording and registering these parameters has become mandatory,» said Elena Shvyrova, head of a department at the FBU Omsk Center for Standardization and Metrology (Omsk TsSM), at a seminar held at the institution.

On a practical level, the changes will become noticeable from the design stage of X-ray rooms: their placement and equipment installation must comply with project documentation that has passed a sanitary-epidemiological examination. Only companies with a license from Rospotrebnadzor will be allowed to carry out these types of work.

Also, annual radiation monitoring of operational parameters will be carried out on X-ray equipment, all personnel involved in procedures will undergo additional training on radiation safety and will carry dosimeters.

«Requirements have also been introduced for the design of X-ray rooms, commissioning after construction, reconstruction and equipment replacement, as well as for room sizes and ventilation,» the press service of FBU Omsk TsSM reported.

[UPDATE at 16:44] The FBU Omsk TsSM stated that an error had been made in the information provided.

«A mistake was made in the press release. The phrase «About 70% of X-ray rooms do not meet the new sanitary rules» must be removed as it does not correspond to reality.»
