Doctors save 80-year-old Ryazan woman from stroke on Christmas

The patient«s blood vessels had become blocked due to cholesterol buildup from long-term unhealthy habits.
Doctors at the Ryazan Regional Clinical Hospital saved an 80-year-old woman who suffered a stroke. Her neighbor called the ambulance; they had planned to celebrate Christmas together, the regional Ministry of Health reported.
«When she arrived at the agreed time, the neighbor found the woman lying on the floor in a nearly breathless state. She immediately called for an ambulance. The doctors who arrived preliminarily diagnosed a stroke,» the Ministry of Health added.
Doctors at the regional hospital confirmed the diagnosis and started preparing the elderly woman for thrombolysis.
Thrombolysis is a procedure in which thrombolytics are administered intravenously or into the affected vessel. They allow for the rapid dissolution of blood clots and restore normal blood flow.
It was later determined that the stroke was caused by the woman«s harmful habits. Years of smoking and eating fatty, oversalted foods led to her blood vessels being clogged with cholesterol plaques, which disrupted blood flow to the brain.
Nine days after the stroke, the woman«s condition improved to satisfactory. She regained the ability to walk independently, and her speech was restored.
