In Yekaterinburg, doctors saved a 90-year-old veteran. He visited a pulmonologist with severe shortness of breath, coughing up blood, high fever, and general weakness. Medics immediately transported the patient to the intensive care unit of the New Hospital.

Doctors diagnosed the veteran with a dangerous abscess-forming pneumonia, in which purulent cavities form in the lungs, as well as fluid accumulation in the pleural cavity. The patient was diagnosed with multiple organ failure affecting the liver, kidneys, respiratory and central nervous systems.

“To save the life of the Sverdlovsk region resident, doctors immediately began combined antibacterial therapy, correction of vital body functions, and non-invasive lung ventilation,” the Ministry of Health explained.

The patient spent ten days in intensive care, after which he was transferred to the pulmonology department for treatment and rehabilitation. He celebrated his 90th birthday in the hospital, and now he has been discharged home.

Earlier in Yekaterinburg, doctors performed a unique operation on a five-year-old boy with epilepsy. We also reported how Ural doctors saved a young man whose skull was crushed in a car accident. Read more on e1.ru and read more on e1.ru.
