Winter Sports Day in Luzhniki Features Alsou and Frosty Rubik's Cube Contest

Thousands of people came to Luzhniki despite the frost.
Despite the genuine January cold, on Sunday, January 25, the Luzhniki Olympic Complex was full of people. A large-scale festival was held here — the Winter Day of Moscow Sports. The festival offered dozens of free activities, and judging by the lively venues, Muscovites supported the idea of spending the day off actively.

The space in front of the Grand Sports Arena turned into a large sports amusement park. Guests tried their hand at curling, archery, tested their coordination on team skis and accuracy in snow darts.

Special interest was aroused by games adapted for winter. For example, volleyball on snow. No less interesting on the frosty day was the tournament for speed-solving Rubik«s cubes, where finger dexterity was tested by the January frost.

To engage guests, the organizers came up with a game incentive — an activity diary with a checklist. By completing activities and collecting stamps, participants could receive commemorative gifts. Queues formed at every booth from those wanting both to try something new and to mark their sporting feat on the card.

One of the main attractions of the festival were fan meetings with sports stars. Fans were awaited by figure skaters Evgenia Medvedeva, Alexander Enbert, Alina Zagitova, and skier Alexander Panzhinsky. The queue for autographs and the opportunity to take photos with the champions did not dry up throughout the day.

Simultaneously, at the Yuzhny Ice Rink, its own celebration was taking place — a festival for Student«s Day. A special atmosphere prevailed there: many guests were given red robes and caps — symbolic attributes of graduates.

While some guests froze in the fresh air, others could warm up and relax in a warm winter cinema, visit creative workshops for making candles or knitted keychains. For the youngest, play areas with a toy train and snowman sculpting were operating.

And in the evening, singer Alsou performed for the visitors.

There were also curiosities behind the scenes. It turned out that Adelina Sotnikova was given a name card for Evgenia Medvedeva — the figure skaters are always being confused. Adelina never came out to the journalists.
