Specialists from the Volgograd Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring have forecast a slight weakening of the Epiphany frosts in Volgograd and the region. By the next night, air temperatures are not expected to drop below -20°C (-4°F), while daytime temperatures will be a relatively comfortable 6 to 8 degrees below zero Celsius (14.8 to 17.6°F). Here«s what meteorologists predict.

On the night of January 21, light snow is expected across Volgograd Oblast, with moderate snow in places in the morning and daytime. Some areas will continue to see icy conditions. The wind will blow from the southwest at 3–8 meters per second at night, increasing to 5–10 meters per second during the day. Nighttime air temperatures will range from -8°C to -13°C (17.6°F to 8.6°F), potentially dropping to -18°C (-0.4°F) during clear spells, with daytime temperatures at -5°C to -10°C (23°F to 14°F).

January 22 will see little change in the weather pattern, though fog is possible in some places at night and in the morning. The daytime wind will shift from the southwest to the eastern quadrant. Forecasts promise -8°C to -13°C (17.6°F to 8.6°F) at night, down to -18°C (-0.4°F) during clear spells, and -5°C to -10°C (23°F to 14°F) during the day, with some areas seeing down to -13°C (8.6°F).

On January 23, light snow is expected in places at night, with no precipitation during the day, but icy conditions will persist. Forecasts promise -13°C to -18°C (8.6°F to -0.4°F) at night, dropping to -23°C (-9.4°F) during clear spells, and -12°C to -17°C (10.4°F to 1.4°F) during the day, with some areas at -7°C to -12°C (19.4°F to 10.4°F).

In the city of Volgograd itself, no significant precipitation is expected on the night of January 21, with light snow in the morning and daytime and icy roads. The night will bring -10°C (14°F), with -6°C (21.2°F) during the day. A similar temperature is expected on January 22, but a sharp cold snap is forecast for the 23rd — down to -17°C (1.4°F) at night, with daytime temperatures hovering around -12°C (10.4°F).

Regarding space weather, following a storm in Earth«s magnetic field caused by a solar ejection that even triggered auroras at Volgograd»s latitude, magnetospheric activity is expected to subside. By tomorrow, only memories of the magnetic storm will remain, and by noon, Earth«s magnetic field activity will decrease to calm levels.
