In St. Petersburg, snow accumulated in January continues to be removed. At the snow melting point on Oktyabrskaya Embankment, which has become the most popular this year, a long queue of trucks has formed.
The extensive queue highlights the ongoing snow removal efforts in St. Petersburg after heavy January snowfall.
Video shot on January 20 on Zolnaya Street shows about twenty dump trucks waiting to unload. Due to the accumulation of vehicles, traffic on this section was temporarily reduced to one lane.
This queue turned out to be longer than the one observed after the New Year holidays at the snow melting facility on Mebelnaya Street. By January 13, over 73,000 cubic meters of snow had been delivered to the point on Oktyabrskaya Embankment. The reasons for such traffic jams at snow receiving points have been explained previously.
January snowfalls brought a large amount of precipitation to the city, so cleanup work continues. For example, from Galernaya Street, a large snowdrift was recently removed, on top of which local residents had installed a New Year tree. Also, the Northwestern Transport Prosecutor«s Office showed interest in a massive snowdrift near Ladoga Station.
During the period from January 12 to 18, 315,000 cubic meters of snow were removed from the streets of St. Petersburg. The city is now under the influence of cyclones, which may lead to light snow and ice. On the night of January 20, strong fog was also noted.
