Trees felled for construction in Yekaterinburg's Academic District

Construction equipment has begun destroying a large green area in Yekaterinburg, despite a building permit not yet being issued for the site.

Residents of the Academic District in Yekaterinburg report that tree felling work has begun on a vacant lot bordered by Pavel Shamanov, Wilhelm de Gennin, Academician Sakharov, and Ryabinin streets. «They started cutting down the forest on the Shamanov and Wilhelm de Gennin vacant lot without any announcement,» a local resident said.

It became known last year that this territory is planned for development. According to the project, three residential blocks, a school for 1,125 pupils, and two kindergartens for 250 children each are to be built here. The project underwent public discussion in April, and the land surveying was approved in June.

The press service of the Yekaterinburg administration stated that a permit for construction work on this plot of land has not been issued at this time.
