St. Petersburg announces road reconstruction plans for 2026

St. Petersburg plans to begin several large-scale road reconstruction and construction projects in 2026.

At a TASS press conference on January 20, Yevgeny Varov, head of the St. Petersburg Committee for Transport Infrastructure Development, announced plans for the coming year.
The priority projects for 2026 include:
  • Reconstruction of Sovetsky Prospekt in the Nevsky District.
  • Construction of Porkhovskaya Street to connect Pulkovskoye Highway with the large residential quarter CDS.
  • Active continuation of work on the development of Makarov Embankment up to the Betancourt Bridge.
  • Modernization of the transport interchange at the Ring Road (KAD) and Dachnoye.
  • Reconstruction of Manchester Street and Spirina Street.
Varov also summarized the road works for the past year, 2025. Among the key completed projects, he noted the major overhaul of large highways: Nevsky and Moskovsky Prospekts, Kosygin Prospekt, Chernyshevsky, and a section of Primorsky Highway.
In addition, the city repaired 21 kilometers of tram tracks on Babushkina, Savushkina, and Rabfakovskaya streets, carried out works on Troitsky, Blagoveshchensky, and Dvortsovy bridges, reconstructed Sestroretsky, Koltushsky, and Pulkovsky overpasses, as well as Dvortsovaya and Sverdlovskaya embankments.
The total volume of road repairs amounted to 160 kilometers at 90 sites. Besides repair works, the city conducted active new construction: the construction of the Southern Latitudinal Highway, Tsimbalinsky Overpass, M-32 highway, and the street-road network on the reclaimed territories of Vasilyevsky Island continues.
