St. Petersburg«s chief meteorologist Alexander Kolesov noted in his Telegram channel on the morning of January 26: »I«ve been watching the radar for an hour, and nothing is changing. This atmospheric front is hovering over the Gulf of Finland, but it will still come to us, most likely from midday.»

According to him, in the afternoon the front may bring a brief snowfall to the city, with expected precipitation of 1–2 cm.

No further precipitation is expected due to the influence of an anticyclone.

The temperature background in the city remains low:

  • In central St. Petersburg on January 26, the minimum was -13 °C (8.6 °F).
  • In some districts, thermometers dropped to -15…-18 °C (5 to -0.4 °F).

«Therefore, the coldest days still haven»t come to St. Petersburg, and they remain January 5 with the city«s minimum temperature of -17.7 degrees Celsius (0.1 °F). But we still hope that this will happen,» added the meteorologist.

In the next two days, a slight warming is expected, although temperatures will mostly remain in the range of -10 to -15 degrees Celsius (14 to 5°F). Soon, a new portion of cold air will penetrate the region, so the end of January is forecast to be cold.
