In Kurgan, utility cabinets with images of famous locals Yuri Galtsev and Maxim Fadeev have been painted over. The drawings were created by the «ArtShkafy» community.

The art cabinet featuring Yuri Galtsev was installed in 2018 at the intersection of Kuibyshev and Pichugin streets.

«Of course, the drawings needed updating. If they wanted to do it, they would have contacted us, and we would have solved this issue together. But this shows the attitude. Nobody needs this,» shared Denis Chumak, the ideological inspirer of «ArtShkafy,» with a correspondent from 45.RU. He also added that there are no immediate plans for new drawings: «It takes time. We could come up with something if people need it, of course. But for now, there»s no time.«

A cabinet with Maxim Fadeev was placed on Proletarskaya Street opposite the Central Market in 2018.

Utility cabinets with images of famous locals appeared in 2018. In August, at the intersection of Kuibyshev and Pichugin streets, Yuri Galtsev was depicted with a pistol and the phrase from his creative act «Are there no hooligans!». Then in October, on Proletarskaya Street, opposite the Central Market, a drawing appeared with Maxim Fadeev in the image of Morpheus from the film «The Matrix» and the name of the song «Eagles or Crows,» the video for which Fadeev filmed in Kurgan.
The press service of Rostelecom responded to a request from 45.RU that these cabinets do not belong to their company, so they do not know the fate of the drawings. We also asked the city administration about who and why painted over these art objects.
From 2018 to 2021, activists together with artists painted more than 10 cabinets, including writer Maxim Gorky on Gorky Street, agronomist Terenty Maltsev on Koli Myagotina-Tomina Street, founder of Kurgan Timofey Nevezhin on Lenin Street, and others. One of the last drawings was images with characters from the cartoon «Nu, pogodi!» («Just You Wait!»).
All drawings were made thanks to donations from Kurgan residents. Opinions on the painted-over images among Kurgan residents on social media are divided.
«How could they do it? Although in other cities they also paint over on houses,» writes Tatyana K.
«Here they only know how to mess things up, nothing else,» comments Grinya V.
«They»re celebrities too, well, they painted it over and that«s it, who got worse from it?» asks Alexander Sh.
«Our people don»t know how to be happy for someone. We should be proud, what Kurgan residents! But no, it«s better to ruin it. Very sad,» regrets Olga Ya.
We walked along the city streets and checked what other drawings remained on the cabinets. Only in one place at the intersection of Tomina-Gogolya was the cabinet completely removed, replaced by a smaller electrical panel. On it was a family of white bears. The other art objects are untouched.
