Leningrad Region braces for -30°C, utilities on high alert

Due to abnormal cold, all housing and utilities services in the Leningrad Region have been put on high alert. The region's governor Alexander Drozdenko announced this.

On the evening of January 31, Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko announced that all housing and utilities services have been put on high alert due to expected severe frosts.

In his Telegram channel, he wrote: «Tonight, temperatures down to -30°C (-22°F) are expected in the Lodeynopolsky, Podporozhsky, Tikhvinsky, and Boksitogorsky districts.»

To respond promptly to possible emergencies, emergency teams have been reinforced, dispatch services will work around the clock, and special equipment and materials have been prepared.

The chief meteorologist of St. Petersburg Alexander Kolesov reported that on the night of January 31, the temperature in the city center dropped to -17.6°C (0.3°F), and in Kronstadt to -22°C (-7.6°F). The forecast for February 1 also points to very frosty weather.
