Legendary 'Mistress of Ukutus Mountains' and Ski Champion Ekaterina Vogulkina Dies

In Yekaterinburg, esteemed alpine skiing coach Ekaterina Maximovna Vogulkina has passed away. She was 99 years old. The sad news was reported by the alpine skiing portal ski.ru.

“At the age of 100, the legend of alpine skiing of the USSR and Russia, Ekaterina Maximovna Vogulkina, has passed away. The oldest coach and teacher. We thank her for, with her pedagogical talent, not only raising excellent athletes but also helping a great many Sverdlovsk street kids make something of themselves… Eternal Memory!” — according to the message from the portal ski.ru.
Ekaterina Vogulkina was a member of the USSR national alpine skiing team for five years. She twice became the country«s champion — in 1947 and 1949.
According to the Ministry of Sports, from 1958 to 1981, Ekaterina Maximovna worked as a coach-instructor at the Sverdlovsk Mining Institute. During these years, the institute«s alpine skiing team held a leading position in the sports society “Burevestnik”.
In 1960, she was the head coach of the Sverdlovsk Oblast alpine skiing team. Until the age of 90, she worked as a coach in alpine skiing at the sports school “Ukutus Mountains”. Over her coaching career, she trained more than 10 USSR Masters of Sport, national champions, and champions of the USSR and RSFSR People«s Spartakiads (multi-sport events).
Ekaterina Vogulkina«s merits were recognized with the Order of the Badge of Honor, the badge “Excellent Worker in Physical Culture and Sport”, and other awards.
