The village of Zaplavnoye in Volgograd Oblast has been without normal water supply for three days due to slush ice — crushed ice formed after water discharge at the Volga Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The problems began on January 24 when ice entered the water intake pipe, causing pump failures. The first pump burned out, and after replacement, the second one also failed.

«Ice got into the pipe, the pump burned out. We installed a second pump, it worked for a while, then burned out too,» a source said.

Following the water supply, heating also stopped working. The boiler house shut down several times due to pressure fluctuations, and on the morning of January 25, it stopped again due to a lack of water in the system.

According to the latest information, heating in Zaplavnoye has been restored. However, water supply is still lacking in a private residential area, a secondary school, and five apartment buildings.

The head of the administration noted: «I can»t say when it will be fixed. We«re working on it right now. Water delivery has been organized for residents. With heating, everything is back to normal.»

Earlier, two weeks ago, a similar situation due to slush ice occurred in the Sovetsky and Kirovsky districts of Volgograd, where loose ice clogged pump filters and halted water intake.
