Drivers in Krasnodar decry dangerous ice after near-crashes
Drivers need to be very careful on the roads today
Drivers in Krasnodar told 93.RU on the morning of January 26 that there is dangerous ice on the city«s roads. According to them, the situation is worse than it was two weeks ago, when the city was covered in snow and ice humps formed on the roadway.
The regional State Automobile Inspectorate (GAI) stated that 130 accidents have already occurred in the city due to ice.
«Zheleznodorozhnaya and Bazovskaya Dam. You»re driving and you«re being tossed from side to side even though there are no humps, but the surface is like a mirror. I saw one accident on Zheleznodorozhnaya— turns are especially dangerous. And I saw a person crossing the road 30 meters in front of me slip as they started to cross.»
«It»s a nightmare. As it turns out, it can be even worse than it was. The car drives on its own, winter tires don«t help. On my way to work, I almost crashed three times and almost hit a person.»
«Very dangerous ice. Where few cars have passed since morning— it»s incredibly slippery, and that«s practically any small street. Even worse— at the exits from courtyards. In front of me, a girl couldn»t drive in, her wheels were just spinning.«
Meanwhile, the mayor«s office reports that roads, overpasses, bridges, and even roadways in the suburbs were sprinkled with anti-icing mixture overnight.
«From the morning, the number of people and equipment involved in treating streets and roads has been increased,» the Krasnodar administration said.
The Krasnodar Unified Duty Dispatch Service (EDDS) appealed to pedestrians, advising them to wear shoes without heels to fall less on sidewalks.
«Move with small sliding steps on slightly bent legs,» the EDDS added.
Earlier, 93.RU reported that on the morning of January 26 near Goryachy Klyuch, two dozen cars collided due to ice.
Recall that two weeks ago, Krasnodar residents also complained en masse about road cleaning. In response, the authorities asked the population «not to grumble» and to say thank you. Later, inspections began in the prosecutor«s office and GAI. Meanwhile, officials at a city council meeting rated the work done as »above average.« The city was cleaned by 20 to 40 machines during the first week after the New Year holidays. According to Arkhipov, the normative need for combined machines for road maintenance in winter for Krasnodar is about 120 units.
