On the viewing platform in Rostov«s Sedov Square, tile was laid over the »bald spots« that had formed in the coating. Rostov City Head Alexander Skryabin reported this in his Telegram channel. But residents remain dissatisfied. They described and showed broken benches, dead trees, and piles of garbage around the square.

The head of Rostov shared this image on his Telegram channel to report on the recent repair work.

«It«s normal to repair something if it»s broken. But in this case, we«ve been waiting since the beginning of summer. Reluctantly, dragging their feet, after writing many formal replies, the Kirovsky District administration mustered the strength and restored the lost fragments of the tile coating. Well done? All work should be done quality and on time,» writes a user with the nickname Helga under the city head»s post.

She published before and after photos of the tile repair.

«On Saturday, I walked to the market through the square. I didn«t notice any restoration of the tile on the pedestrian paths — there are holes all along the way. The square looks terrible, unkempt, abandoned. Just to write that at least something was done,» wrote another Rostov resident, Elena Fedorova.

«They killed the square. For over half a year, they wrote formal replies about how wonderful everything is in Sedov Square: the greenery and flowerbeds, the tile is fine, and the worn-out benches just invite you to sit in the shade of the trees. But the trees burned in the summer, including the pines. Year 2025 — empty flowerbeds stood until mid-May, then were planted with marigolds. Year 2023 — spruces were growing, they dried up and were cut down in 2024 after numerous requests to cut them down and plant new ones. Year 2020 — thujas were growing, they mysteriously disappeared. Looking for where the coniferous trees went? Why are they disappearing? What care do they receive? Where is the compensatory planting?» continued Helga.

She pointed out «trees that were cut down a year ago while still alive» and broken railings on the viewing platform. The Rostov resident also published a response from the administration, which stated that the issue of repairing the railings will be addressed in 2026, and they demanded that Rosimushchestvo (the Federal Agency for State Property Management) improve everything by December 11, 2025.

Residents are also troubled by abandoned cars that no one is taking away: «Did they remove the cars or are we waiting for them to explode?»

«Yellow benches with backs, which stood in the shade of the surviving linden trees, for about three years now could have starred in horror movies. Several years ago, there was landscaping. I really want to look at the documents to see what was written there. In reality, a few trash cans and about six benches without backs were installed. I will probably surprise the organizers of this landscaping when I say that resting on such a bench is uncomfortable; you need a back. They installed them on the main alley, where there are zero trees. And in the shade of the linden trees, they left the skeletons of the old benches. But even that came to an end. In the summer of this year, most of the trees dried up. There was almost no shade.»

A representative of the city administration responded to this comment as follows: «The issue of installing additional small architectural forms (benches) in Sedov Square will be considered in 2026 subject to the allocation of funding.»

In September 2024, 161.RU wrote that the area around the viewing platform in Sedov Square in Rostov was overgrown. Virtually nothing was visible from it, and there was a lot of garbage nearby. The city administration then said they could not remove the latter because the land near the platform belongs to the regional Rosimushchestvo.
