Volgograd 'Village Boy' Shares Rich Borscht Recipe – Video

Cooking borscht in a Russian stove yields a heartier and more flavorful soup through slow simmering.
“The village boy” from Leninsky district shared a recipe for rich borscht. Nikolai Zlydnev prepares it exclusively in a Russian stove. According to him, this way it turns out much tastier. And if you serve it with homemade sour cream, lard, mustard, and black bread, it becomes the most delicious dish in the world! Can you imagine? Then run to the kitchen to cook and delight your family with the tastiest lunch.
The blogger emphasizes serving the dish with homemade sour cream, lard, mustard, and black bread for the best experience.
For preparation, you will need meat, cabbage, potatoes, beets, pepper, carrots, onion, herbs, tomato paste, garlic, spices, bay leaf, salt.
“We cook borscht in a Russian stove. We chop the vegetables into large cubes, shred the cabbage. We put meat into the cauldron, pieces quite large. As they say, you can never have too much meat. Next, we add carrots, and so on we layer everything, not forgetting to salt and add spices,” explains the village blogger. “We cut potatoes into large pieces. We diluted tomato paste with water, poured it all over, and sprinkled herbs on top. We cover with a lid and put it in the stove for at least four to five hours. The borscht should simmer well, not boil. No frying is required here. Now that’s deliciousness, and what aromas! Look how rich it is. With homemade sour cream and bread! Enjoy your meal everyone.”
An excellent addition to borscht would be kholodets (aspic). According to Nikolai Zlydnev, if you serve it with mustard, it turns out divinely delicious! However, many, judging by the comments, would not dare to try a dish made from pork and beef legs and ears… In response, they argued: if you don’t like kholodets, it means you simply don’t know how to cook it.
