Instant Coffee Prices Hit 3,000 Rubles in Yekaterinburg

Coffee prices in Yekaterinburg stores have significantly increased over the past year. The price hike has affected both instant and ground coffee.

According to Rosstat data, in January 2025, a kilogram of instant coffee cost 3,600 rubles (approximately $36 at current rates). By December, the average price rose to 4,500 rubles (approx. $45), which means a 27% increase.
A sharp price jump occurred in March, when the price increased by more than 300 rubles (approx. $3) in a month. After that, prices remained stable for half a year, but growth accelerated in October.
Ground coffee over the same period increased by 29%: from 2,000 rubles (approx. $20) per kilogram to 2,600 rubles (approx. $26). The rise began in May, and by August the price reached 2,400 rubles (approx. $24). In September, it dropped to 2,200 rubles (approx. $22), but in October the cost went up again.
At the beginning of 2026, the trend of price increases continued. For example, according to Yekaterinburg resident Tatiana, before the New Year she bought a 250-gram jar of ground coffee for 673 rubles (approx. $7). Now a similar product costs from 700 to 780 rubles (approx. $7 to $8).
Current prices for some brands reach even higher levels. According to the service «Cooper», the following prices are set in chain stores:
- A 270-gram jar of Monarch instant coffee at «Magnit» — 1,100 rubles (approx. $11);
- The same packaging at «Perekryostok» — 1,352 rubles (approx. $14);
- 500 grams of «Nescafe Gold» at «Ashan» — 2,890 rubles (approx. $29).
Instant coffee is traditionally more expensive than ground coffee due to the complexity of production: to obtain one kilogram of instant product, several kilograms of beans need to be processed.
Experts back in autumn 2024 warned about price increases, linking them to poor coffee bean harvests and supply issues. In January 2025, many Yekaterinburg cafes raised prices for takeaway drinks, and market players forecast further price hikes.
Coffee was among the products with the highest price increases at the end of 2025.
