Agriculture Will End': Omsk Farmer on Why Falling Butter Prices Are Bad

A farmer warns that keeping cows is becoming unprofitable for local producers.
Since the start of the year, the price of butter has fallen in Omsk Region because the market has been flooded with imported goods. This was reported by NGS55.RU, citing Alexander Bayer, the general director of the JSC Solntsevo agricultural company. He stressed that the products mainly come through Belarus.
«This isn»t just Belarusian butter, but also Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian—it all comes to us through the neighboring country,« Bayer explained.
Due to the high volume of imports, local producers are now getting significantly less for raw milk: whereas they used to receive about 42 rubles (about $0.46 at current rates) per liter, the price has now dropped to 30 rubles (about $0.33). Such pricing could lead to severe consequences for Omsk Region«s agriculture, Bayer stressed.
«Agriculture will come to an end. They will start culling cows because it will become unprofitable.»
While consumers are temporarily benefiting from low prices, Omsk«s milk and butter producers find themselves in a crisis. According to the farmer, this could lead to a reduction in local production in the future.
Earlier, farmers spoke about what will happen to the milk and meat production sector in 2026.
