Korney and Vasily: Rare and Unusual Names Given to Omsk Newborns in January
The Civil Registry Office portal has published a list of the rarest and most unusual names that Omsk parents chose for their newborn children in January 2026.
The list of rare female names included Ranelya, Elvina, Violetta, Safina, and Lyaysan. Among the rare male names were Vasily, Rustam, Alan, Korney, and Danial. In the first month of the year, girls were most frequently named Eva (28), Anna (27), Sofia (21), Varvara (21), and Polina (17). Boys received the names Mikhail (37), Alexander (28), Artem (22), Maxim (19), and Roman (16).
Last year, the birth rate declined in Omsk. If 17,742 people were born in 2020, the following year that number was 526 fewer. Moreover, the number of births has only decreased annually.
Earlier, NGS55.RU reported which names newborns received during the New Year holidays. The list of the rarest male names in our region included Yelisey, Konstantin, Danial, Selim, and Rakhman. For girls, the top spots were taken by Darina, Anastasia, Violetta, Rada, and Yasmina.
