A father from Chelyabinsk paid off half a million in alimony debts after working in an Orthodox church. The 30 hours of mandatory work were assigned to him by a court decision, the bailiffs« press service reported on January 21.
The debt of 519,000 rubles (approximately $5,800 at current rates) accumulated during periods when the citizen had no official income. A year ago, he obtained self-employed status and began regularly transferring alimony, but the debt did not decrease, the bailiffs said. «The citizen owned no property and had no funds in his accounts.»
To secure the debt payment, the bailiffs restricted the father«s ability to drive and held him administratively liable for non-payment of alimony. The court assigned the man mandatory work, which is how he ended up in the church.
«After serving his duty, he appeared before the bailiff, took a receipt for the debt payment, and then transferred the entire amount to a deposit account in one payment,» the Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP of Russia) reported. «He asked to have the driving restriction lifted immediately after transferring the money—his work involves operating a vehicle.»
Recall that the State Duma recently proposed creating a state alimony fund that would pay off debts to children from the budget and then recover these funds from defaulters with interest.
