Yekaterinburg Woman Wins 91 Million Rubles in Lottery

A combination of numbers based on family birth dates brought a Yekaterinburg resident a major lottery win.
Darya Deeva, a mother of many children and a homemaker from Yekaterinburg, has become the owner of 91 million rubles (about 1,011,100 USD at current rates) by winning the lottery. A ticket costing 200 rubles (about 2 USD) brought her enormous wealth.
The woman attributes her win to a special tactic. She bought a ticket by repeating the combination from a previous one, which encoded the birth dates of close relatives. The winning numbers were: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 11, 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23.
‘I was going to bed and, while waiting for my husband, decided to buy a ticket. I lay down, and suddenly a message about the win from «Stoloto» came. «It»s impossible, this doesn«t happen!» I exclaimed. My husband couldn«t believe his eyes when I showed him the phone screen. After that, my husband and I couldn»t sleep for half the night,’ the winner said. ‘I always hoped to win a large sum in the lottery, but when it happened, it was hard for me to realize. Even now, I can hardly believe in the win.’
Darya and her husband have three daughters: ten, six, and two years old. The main part of the winnings will be directed towards securing the children«s future.
‘We decided to use the winnings to buy real estate for our daughters. We«ll buy three spacious apartments. We»ll also set aside money for their future—for education. We always strived for this, always wanted to provide a better life for our children, and now, thanks to the win, it«s achievable,’ Darya added.
According to legislation, a tax of 13% is withheld from large winnings, which in this case amounts to 18 million rubles (about 200,000 USD at current rates). Thus, the Yekaterinburg woman will receive 72 million rubles (about 800,000 USD at current rates) in hand.
This is not the first major win in the Urals. Previously, educational psychologist Natalia Lokhmatova from Sverdlovsk Oblast also became a lottery winner, receiving 333 million rubles (about 3,700,000 USD at current rates).
