Taltsy Museum Hosts Maslenitsa Celebrations on February 21 and 22

Traditional Maslenitsa celebrations at Taltsy Museum feature folk entertainment and plenty of pancakes.
Maslenitsa festivities will take place at the Taltsy Museum on February 21 and 22. The highlight of the program will be the burning of a traditional doll, into which visitors can place notes describing their troubles, according to the museum«s website.
The program includes performances by creative groups, songs, dances and a DJ, folk games, weightlifting, tug-of-war, a «Maslenitsa» pole with gifts, a sale fair, plenty of pancakes, and, of course, the «ritual of bidding farewell to hardships.»
«On these days, by tradition, anyone who wants to start spring with a clean slate can put a note with their troubles in the pocket of the holiday»s main doll — Maslenitsa. It is believed that all misfortunes will fly away with the smoke from its burning effigy!« the message says.
Additionally, a tavern and extra food stalls will be available for visitors, and a picnic area will be set up where people can grill their own shashlik.
The program begins at 12:00. Ticket prices are 350 rubles (about $5 at current rates) for adults, 200 rubles (about $3 at current rates) for schoolchildren, students, and pensioners. Children under 6 years old enter for free. Parking costs 100 rubles (about $1 at current rates).
