The Perm Puppet Theater has decided to make 2026 the year of fairy tales: in the next twelve months, five productions in this genre will be staged here. The theater has announced what premieres are in store for Perm residents.

In April, on the main stage, they will first show a performance based on the fairy tale novella by Pogorelsky “The Black Hen, or The Underground Inhabitants” (6+). The story of a boy Alyosha«s encounter with a magical world and its inhabitants is being staged by playwright Anastasia Mordvinova, artistic director Dmitry Vikhretsky, and chief puppet artist Victoria Yeltsova.

The anniversary 90th season will open in the fall with the second premiere of the year — “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” (6+). Alexander Pushkin«s work will be presented by director Anton Nesterenko and artist Lilia Zhamaletdinova.

At the end of October, on the main stage, the third premiere is planned — “Tales of Safety” (6+). This will be a playful lesson-performance about the importance of taking precautions at home and on the street. The performance will be directed by theater actor Pavel Dityatin, who is known not only for his roles but also for the project “Theater of Living Books” with readings of children«s books.

In November, the fourth premiere will take place: Perm residents will see the performance “The Fairy Tale Hunter” (6+) based on Komi-Permyak folklore.

“The direction will be handled by artistic director Dmitry Vikhretsky, the playwriting by dramatist Alisa Malinina, the visual design by artist Victoria Yeltsova, and ethnographer consultant will be Tatyana Sannikova, general director of the folk creativity house ‘Guberniya’,” the puppet theater said.

Just before the New Year, in December, young viewers will be welcomed to the fifth premiere — “The Winter Lodge of the Beasts” (0+) based on the eponymous Russian folk tale.

“Last year was marked by experiments: we reinterpreted Pushkin, worked with contemporary science fiction, and this year we want to dedicate to classics, folklore, and ‘useful things’,” commented artistic director Dmitry Vikhretsky. “We have accumulated enough productions for an adult audience, so the repertoire policy for the near future will be focused on stories for children. And with the existing ‘adult’ productions, we will go to theater festivals.”

Earlier we reported that the Perm Youth Theater is staging a performance “The Knights of the Forty Islands” based on the first novel by Sergei Lukyanenko.
