Paid university places to drop 13%

Russian universities will see a decrease in the number of paid places. This decision was made by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (Minobrnauki). The announcement appeared on the ministry«s official website.
The reduction amounts to 47,000 places — that is 13% of the total number of paid places in the approved list. According to Minister Valery Falkov, the main changes affected:
non-state universities;
popular fields — economics, law, advertising and public relations.
At the same time, the ministry is simultaneously working on expanding opportunities for free education.
«Minobrnauki is working to increase the number of budget places in engineering specialties, as well as to increase the standard cost of training engineers,» the ministry«s website reports.
The Russian education system has been undergoing serious changes recently. In 2027, universities will abandon the Bologna system. One of the main goals of the reform is to solve the problem of graduate employment.
Today, a bachelor«s degree in many state-owned and large companies, as well as when applying for civil service, is often considered incomplete higher education, which creates artificial barriers to career advancement. The new system should remove these restrictions, equalizing the rights of graduates of the »basic« level with former specialists. Read more about the reform in our article.
