Educational institutions in Samara have started massively moving classes to remote format. The reason is weather conditions.
According to data as of February 5, classes were moved to remote: grades 1–4 — 34 schools; grades 1–8 — 18 schools; grades 1–11 — 2 schools. Instruction is organized in normal mode (did not close) — 99 schools, reported 63.RU from the Samara city administration.
The city administration also reminded that the decision to cancel in-person classes is made independently by the head of the educational organization.
As explained by the Ministry of Education of Samara Region, there are three threshold temperature values at which children are transferred to remote: at -25°C (-13°F) — for students in grades 1–4; at -27°C (-17°F) — for students in grades 1–8; at -30°C (-22°F) — for students in grades 1–11.
The weather in the last winter month is thoroughly testing the residents of Samara Region for endurance. On February 3, the region was blanketed with snow, and on the morning of February 4, rather severe frosts hit — down to -20°C (-4°F) and even lower. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) even declared a «Yellow Level» weather hazard.
Judging by the data from weather forecasters, we will have to freeze until the end of the work week. Only on Sunday afternoon is a warming expected to -5°C (23°F).
