Abnormal Frosts Force Volgograd Schools to Remote Learning
Schools in nine districts of Volgograd Region are switching partially or fully to remote learning due to abnormal frosts and black ice. The decision comes after a 12-year-old boy died in Petrov Val yesterday after slipping on ice.

Schools in some municipalities switched to full distance learning, while others adopted a partial transition.

Schools in Volgograd Region have begun switching fully or partially to distance learning, the Volgograd Region Department of Education reported. Educational institutions in nine cities and districts will operate in the altered format.
The municipalities affected by the switch to remote learning are:
- Alekseyevsky District
- Kamyshinsky District
- Kotovsky District
- Leninsky District
- Nekhayevsky District
- Staropoltavsky District
- Uryupinsky District
- Frolovsky District
- the city of Volzhsky
The reason is abnormal frosts and black ice. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS), temperatures could drop to as low as -35 degrees Celsius (-31°F) during the second half of the night on February 4 and 5.
Schools in Petrov Val, where a 12-year-old child died yesterday, were also switched to distance learning: students said the boy fell on the ice and hit his head hard; doctors were unable to save him. The Investigative Committee of Russia for Volgograd Region (SU SKR) will determine the exact cause of death after an autopsy and forensic examination.
