Cucumber prices surge 6.3% in Russia over week

Cucumbers led consumer price growth in Russia in the last week of January, according to Rosstat data from 4 February. Overall inflation from 27 January to 2 February was 0.20%.

According to data from the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) published on 4 February, the consumer price index in Russia rose by 0.20% for the week from 27 January to 2 February. Since the beginning of 2026, cumulative inflation has reached 2.11%. The largest increase over this period was shown by cucumbers, which became 6.3% more expensive.

Overall, the group of vegetables and fruits rose by 2.1%. In particular, price increases were noted for:

  • carrots — 1.8%;
  • cabbage — 1.5%;
  • beets and potatoes — 1.3%.

Among other food products, the price of vodka increased by 1%. Beef, chicken eggs, bread, and kefir rose slightly. At the same time, prices for pork, butter, chicken, and milk declined somewhat.

Among non-food products, the most notable increases were for medicines: rimantadine (by 1.2%), rengalin (by 0.8%), and pentalgin (by 0.7%). Also rising in price were dry pet food, toilet paper, and toothpaste.

Car gasoline rose by 0.1%, while diesel fuel prices remained virtually unchanged. The cost of tourist trips increased significantly: package tours to the UAE rose by 5.5%, and to the Black Sea coast of Russia by 5%.

Recall that in January, Rosstat reported a sharp increase in cucumber prices during the New Year holidays — they then rose by 21.3%. The overall cost of fruits and vegetables during that period increased by 7.9%.
