Specialists from the Omsk Hydrometeorological Center detected elevated mercury concentrations in the Irtysh River. Previously, employees of the Ob-Irtysh Hydrometeorological Service took water samples from the river three kilometers downstream from the Beregovoy settlement in Omsk District.

As reported on the hydrometeorological center«s website, mercury was found in samples from January 29, with a concentration of 0.049 mg per cubic decimeter. Meanwhile, the permissible concentration is no more than 0.0005 milligrams, according to SanPIN (sanitary rules and norms).

Moreover, at the end of January, manganese contamination was detected in the Irtysh River in the Ust-Ishim area — its concentration was 0.3142 mg per cubic decimeter. This is also above the norm allowed by sanitary documents.

Previously we reported on the consequences of constructing or abandoning the construction of a hydroelectric complex near Omsk. As it turned out, even if the facility is not built, nothing terrible will happen.
