In Kurgan, a major renovation of the regional local history museum, located at 137 Pushkin Street near the Eternal Flame, will begin this year. Governor Vadim Shumkov wrote about this in his Telegram channel. According to information from the Goszakupki website, the initial cost of the work is 72.4 million rubles (approximately $724,000 at current rates).

According to documentation posted in the tender, the building will undergo a major renovation of all three floors, including utilities. A new ramp will also be installed, and the museum«s facade will be updated. The repair timeframe is set for two years — until November 1, 2027. The search for a contractor is underway until February 20.

The regional local history museum in Kurgan was opened in 1951 in the premises of the former Alexander Nevsky Church in the city garden. In 1991, the building was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church, and the museum moved to Pushkin Street to the building of the former House of Political Education. In recent years, the local history museum has added exhibitions dedicated to the Special Military Operation (SMO) and local wars. Also, the exhibition in the hall of modern history was updated, dedicated to the Soviet and modern period of the region. In December an exhibition of Soviet toys was held.
