Neryungri District Court sentenced a 52-year-old woman from Yakutia to 10 years in a penal colony for murder and attempted murder of two men she allegedly believed planned to sell her into slavery. The press service of the Investigative Committee of Yakutia reported this on 5 February.
The incident occurred on 20 September 2025, when the defendant was drinking alcohol with distant relatives in the settlement of Chulman on Tsiolkovsky Street. After a drunken party, a conflict arose, and the woman stabbed one of them with a knife, then attacked the second when he tried to run into the stairwell. Neighbors who heard the noise called an ambulance and the police.
As a result of the attack, her 32-year-old relative died, while the second, a 62-year-old man, survived — he managed to escape.
“As the defendant later explained to the investigator, due to several days of alcohol consumption, she developed a false fear for her life on the suspicion that the men intended to sell her,” the press service said.
The court found the defendant guilty. Taking into account the opinion of the state prosecutor, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony.
