Sochi Man Faces Up to 7 Years for Cigarette Theft

In Sochi, police quickly solved a robbery. Early in the morning, a 38-year-old native of Khabarovsk Krai entered a 24-hour store on Makarenko Street and went behind the counter. There, he grabbed a pack of cigarettes and tried to leave the store with it. The cashier demanded payment for the goods worth 219 rubles (approximately $2), but the robber refused. Then the woman tried to retrieve the stolen items, which led to a scuffle. The man forcefully pushed the seller several times, and then, not expecting such resistance, threw down the cigarettes and fled.
The identity of the failed robber was established by officers of the Makarenko microdistrict police station within a few hours, and he was detained. A criminal case has been initiated for attempted robbery. The man faces up to 7 years of imprisonment.
«In such criminal cases, the amount of damage is not of key importance. What matters is the very fact of open theft of someone else»s property,« reports the press service of the Sochi Police Department.
