Pervert Who Filmed Child Porn in Soviet Apartment: His Fate

Samara Region, January 2026. A clean entrance in a standard Khrushchevka on Chernyshevsky Street in Novokuybyshevsk. Flowers on the window, neat doormats. Nothing gives away that 30 years ago, behind one of these doors, hellish work was underway. Here, in this provincial town, «content» was churned out for an international porn syndicate.

The actors were those easy to break and subdue: children from 8 to 16 years old. The main director was a local, Vladimir Timofeev, also known as Timokha, the Photographer, and the Director. A legend and an icon in perverted circles. A man who, according to various estimates, corrupted from 500 to several thousand boys.

Journalist Natalya Artyakova from 63.RU came here, to the doors of an inconspicuous Khrushchevka, to find out if the city remembers the Director and if he is even alive. What follows is in the first person.

Silence on the Stairwell

That very studio was once on the fifth floor, right under the roof. I approach the door. But first, I decide to knock on the neighbors« door.

«We»ve lived here a long time, but we«re not acquainted with the neighbors, to be honest. I know a woman lives there, but I can»t tell you her name,« answered a resident of the adjacent apartment.

A woman? As far as is known, Timofeev had no wife. So who lives here now? A relative or, perhaps, an heir?

I knock. A female voice from behind the door: «Who is it?» I introduced myself neutrally: «Excuse me, we»re looking for a person who lived here. Can you help us?«

The door opened slightly. A slender woman in her sixties looked at me warily.
— A man, Vladimir Timofeev, used to live in this apartment. Have you lived here long?
— Long.
— Well, he was registered here in the 1990s, in this apartment. Timofey Fyodorovich, born in 1954.
— So what?
— Do you know who that is?
— Yes.
— You«re acquainted, yes?
— Yes.
— Not relatives by any chance?
— Yes, relatives.
— And where is he now? Did he die long ago? In what year? In the 2010s?
— Why do you need this?
— Well, just…
— Why do you need it?
— We«re looking into the situation, we know he lived here.
— He doesn«t live here anymore, of course. I won»t tell you anything about him. Why? Who are you?
— A journalist.
— Oh, I see! Still hunting for something fresh? Goodbye.
The door slammed shut. Sharply, definitively. The woman could be understood. Why would she stir up the past, especially such a past? But this silence was more eloquent than any words.
The building manager, who usually knows everything about everyone, also refused to talk. Politely but firmly: «The man died, and stirring up the past is somehow indecent even towards him.»
Walking around the five-story building, I didn«t meet anyone who wanted to remember Timokha. Or had everyone who knew something already moved away? Or perhaps the city really is trying to forget how, in the distant 1990s, a homosexual pedophile lived here, whose name echoed throughout the criminal world?
The investigation seemed to have hit a dead end. But we at least found out the main thing: Vladimir Timofeev is dead. Later, checking with my own sources, I found confirmation: he died on 29 May 2011 at 11:50. Diagnosis: a brain cyst. He was 56 years old.
Timokha: Portrait of a Monster
Who was he, this Vladimir Timofeev born in 1954? A gaunt man, «not cut out to be a porn star,» as journalists sarcastically wrote. A tinsmith by training. But this was his hobby…
To understand the scale of the personality whose lair I knocked on 30 years later, we need to go back to the 1990s. That«s when he transformed from an ordinary pervert into a key link in an international criminal machine.
His unhealthy fascination with little boys began in his teenage years. And by the mid-1990s, having gotten a job as the head of a photography club at the local House of Culture (yes, such a horrific paradox), he took his «hobby» to a professional level. Children in the city called him Timokha and Vovan, adults called him the Photographer or the Director. His address was scratched on stairwell walls: «Timokha will f…, pays 100 rubles.»
What was he accused of? The facts gathered from official archival publications paint a monstrous picture:
Industrial production of child pornography. In just two years (1997–1999) he filmed over 300 hours of video and thousands of photographs. The footage features hundreds of boys aged 8 to 16 from Novokuybyshevsk, Samara, and Chapayevsk. His series was called «A Russian Boys» Party«;
Personal violence. He didn«t just film. He was an active participant in the shoots. »Perhaps there isn«t a boy in the city who doesn»t know of his existence,« journalists noted back then;
Links to drug dealers. Drug dealing points operated right at his entrance. According to some testimonies, drugs were «pushed» on children on their way in and out of his apartment-studio. A local crime boss, San Sanych, was his «protection»;
Creating a system. He groomed his own successors. Even after his arrest, other «photographers» like a physics teacher with a surname starting with «Ts» continued to work in the city. Children awaited his return from prison and even pooled money for care packages.
But how did a provincial pervert become «Russia»s leading porn director«? The answer is Moscow.
The «Blue Orchid» Syndicate
In 1998, guests from the capital came to Timokha. Among them was Dmitry Kuznetsov (KDV)—the man who turned the provincial maniac«s hobby into an international business. He gifted Timofeev an expensive video camera and showed him the way into the world of porn.
KDV, a former «president of economic sciences,» was a promotion genius. He mastered the internet, which was still a novelty then, and created the website «Blue Orchid.» Through it, he sold Timofeev«s videos and those of other »directors« (from Kazan, St. Petersburg, Perm) abroad. Each cassette cost 200–250 dollars. Money from clients in the USA, Europe, and Israel came through bank accounts in Chelyabinsk.
Thus, Novokuybyshevsk became the «factory,» and Moscow the so-called «supermarket.» Strange guests were drawn to Timokha: State Duma deputy aide Vsevolod Solntsev-Elbe (that very Seva, who filmed himself and was a producer), an Israeli citizen forced to flee the country due to business, and many other «connoisseurs.»
And here arises the main agonizing question: how? How in a small town, where it seemed that if you went outside in slippers in winter, news of it would spread instantly throughout the district, did the filming of child porn continue for years?
In fact, the entire town knew or suspected Timofeev«s work. Teachers and school principals went to the police and prosecutor»s office about him. Employees at the «Kodak» salon, where he calmly brought film for development, themselves handed over evidence to the police station. But the system failed. The pervert was arrested by chance, and not even in Novokuybyshevsk, but in Samara.
Another key element was «protection.» Local drug dealers, for whom Timofeev«s studio was a convenient sales point, and possibly some local law enforcement officials.
Third—the indifference and fear of the residents themselves. Many of Timofeev«s first »models« grew up and, according to journalists, became »quite «respected» people.« Which of them wanted to expose their shameful past?
And finally, patronage «from above.» When the case did reach court, deputies, human rights activists, and cultural figures unexpectedly began speaking in defense of the «simple photographer» (obviously not fully understanding the case). He was sentenced to a laughable 4 years in a standard-regime colony, and then released early—under an amnesty for the 55th anniversary of Victory.
And what about the law? Here lies the most monstrous paradox. In 1998, the State Duma passed an amendment lowering the age of sexual consent from 16 to 14 years. This effectively legalized the activities of people like Timofeev if the child was 14. Deputies who shouted about morality made Russia a paradise for pedophiles. The amendment was «shelved» only in 2001, when international scandals erupted.
Life After Death. What Remains?
Timofeev died in 2011. But did the phenomenon itself die? Judging by the facts, his enterprise lived on even after the studio founder«s arrest. He was convicted again: in 2003—for 6 years, in 2007—for 2 years. He was released and, apparently, returned to his business. In his notebooks, he had written the names and phone numbers of new potential victims: »Seryozha, Vadik, Lyosha…«
And what about the «Blue Orchid»? The syndicate was smashed, but, as operatives themselves admitted, this was just the tip of the iceberg. Solntsev-Elbe was convicted, Kuznetsov was released several times for lack of evidence. Some of the defendants were simply amnestied.
And so I mentally return to that clean entrance on Chernyshevsky Street. To the apartment where an elderly woman now lives. Why did she cut the conversation so abruptly? Shame? Fear? A desire to leave the past behind the door? Or perhaps she was part of that system of silence that protected Timokha for decades?
In one of the old materials, a key phrase from one of the report«s subjects flashed by: »This is a man who managed to subjugate an entire city.«
He subjugated it not by force, but by a universal conspiracy of silence. A conspiracy born of fear, self-interest, and a reluctance to see the filth. His apartment-studio was not just a maniac«s lair. It was a symbol of impunity that flourished wildly in the turbulent 1990s against a backdrop of universal chaos and indifference.
Yes, we found the answer to the main question: Timokha is dead. But the questions have only multiplied. Where did thousands of hours of film go? What became of the hundreds of his «actors»? And where is that line after which people prefer to forget rather than remember, so as not to repeat?
