Nizhny Novgorod man defrauds businessmen, soldiers of 11 mln

A resident of Nizhny Novgorod was found guilty of fraud: the court established that he fraudulently embezzled more than 11 million rubles ($122,200 at current rates). The man was sentenced to five years in a general-regime penal colony, the regional Investigative Committee told.
Investigators established that between 2019 and 2024, the man deceived residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region by selling goods and not delivering them to buyers. He then switched to another method of fraud — he began impersonating an employee of the Federal Protective Service (FSO). He convinced one of the victims that he could change the preventive measure for her relative, who was in custody on criminal charges, and replace the judge handling the case. The fraudster received a deposit from the woman, which he spent as he saw fit.
The department noted that by posing as an FSO employee, the man repeatedly under various pretexts stole money from participants of the special military operation.
In total, the fraudster obtained more than 11 million rubles. The fraud scheme was uncovered by officers of the regional Federal Security Service (FSB).
Earlier, we reported on cases of remote fraud in Kstovo. Local residents began receiving calls asking them to come to the district administration to receive a medal. And before that, to verify passport and other personal data.
