Former senator and deputy health minister of Ryazan Oblast Irina Petina will remain in pretrial detention until May 12, 2026. The Soviet District Court extended her custody term on February 2 during a regular hearing.

Petina«s previous custody term was expiring, so it was extended.

“Defendant Petina I.A. and her defenders asked to change the preventive measure to house arrest,” the Soviet District Court of Ryazan said.

The court denied the defense«s motion. Irina Petina will remain in pretrial detention for another three months.

Irina Petina is accused of several episodes of receiving bribes on a particularly large scale. According to the prosecution, in her position as deputy health minister, she helped managers of Ryazan and Moscow enterprises in concluding state contracts for the supply of medical equipment.

From 2011 to 2014, according to the investigation, Irina Petina received a bribe of more than 45 million rubles (approximately $450,000 at current rates), and in 2020 — 12.5 million rubles (about $125,000 at current rates). The former official does not admit her guilt, and her lawyers insist on her non-involvement in the crimes.
